BECOME ACCREDITED IN MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

Karen is a licenced Mental Health First Aid Instructor with a calm and compassionate approach. All of our Mental Health First Aid course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems.

This course is intended for the public to gain an understanding of a first response approach to assisting an adult experiencing mental health concerns.

They learn all the latest research and how to provide help in crisis and non-crisis situations, enabling all participants to know how, who and where to get help for themselves, their colleagues, friends and family.

The course introduces students to a range of mental health concerns, and through a five-step action plan, students learn how to respond to someone who is experiencing mental health concerns.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Course Content

• Mental Health First Aid Action Plan

• Mental health illnesses including depression, anxiety problems psychosis and substance use problems

• How to guide a person to support.

Crisis Situations

The course will also teach you how to provide immediate assistance to someone who is in crisis, which may include the following:

 

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours

  • Non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called deliberate self-harm)

  • Panic attacks

  • Traumatic events

  • Severe effects of drug or alcohol use

  • Severe psychotic states

  • Aggressive behaviours

What can you expect from the Mental Health First Aid Accreditation?

  • Knowledge and appropriate tools to handle crisis situations.
  • Emotionally and culturally appropriate protocols to ensure the well-being of all people.
  • Support and confidence for all participants to correctly identify and refer people in need.
  • Connection, empowerment and improved personal mental health of participants & reduction of stigmatic attitudes.

What is the Course Structure & Inclusions?

12-hour course, delivered on site.

  • 2 x 6 hour days
  • 4 x 3 hour days
  • 3 x 4 hour days

Who can enrol?

  • Everyone, aged 18 years and over.
  • There is no prerequisite level of study or work to attend.

Does this course contribute any CPD Points?

Most professionals can claim attendance towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within their industry body. ​

What will course participants receive?
